Indices for Prevalence and Incidence of Periodontal Disease

Abstract

PIDEMIOLOGICAL investigations of a disease commonly start with the study of prevalence and incidence of the disease.Prevalence refers to the number of events or defects in an individual or a population at a specified time.Incidence refers to the number of defects that may accrue or accumulate in an individual or a population during a given period of time. When the extent and distribution of the disease has been investigated, the available information is utilized in search for etiological factors and studies of the nature of the disease.Attempts are always made to gather epidemiological data in numerical systems from which an index can be computed. An index should be quantitative since it must indicate the severity of the disease with reasonable accuracy, and it should be suitable for statistical evaluation.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
