Cognitive-Behavior Therapy Outcomes for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Exposure and Response Prevention

Wheaton, Michael G., Schwartz, Marissa R., Pascucci, Olivia, Simpson, H. Blair·2015·Psychiatric Annals

Abstract

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic, disabling condition that afflicts 2% to 3% of the population. Cognitive-behavioral therapy consisting of exposure and response prevention (EX/RP) is the first-line psychologic treatment for OCD. This article describes in detail the components and structure of EX/RP to provide a practical guide for clinicians. We also review the research supporting the use of EX/RP, both as a monotherapy and in combination with pharmacotherapy. We also discuss potential mechanisms of action for EX/RP and conclude with directions for future research. [ Psychiatr Ann . 2015;45(6):303–307.]

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
