Qwen3-VL Technical Report
Open accessAbstract
We introduce Qwen3-VL, the most capable vision-language model in the Qwen series to date, achieving superior performance across a broad range of multimodal benchmarks. It natively supports interleaved contexts of up to 256K tokens, seamlessly integrating text, images, and video. The model family includes both dense (2B/4B/8B/32B) and mixture-of-experts (30B-A3B/235B-A22B) variants to accommodate diverse latency-quality trade-offs. Qwen3-VL delivers three core pillars: (i) markedly stronger pure-text understanding, surpassing comparable text-only backbones in several cases; (ii) robust long-context comprehension with a native 256K-token window for both text and interleaved multimodal inputs, enabling faithful retention, retrieval, and cross-referencing across long documents and videos; and (iii) advanced multimodal reasoning across single-image, multi-image, and video tasks, demonstrating leading performance on comprehensive evaluations such as MMMU and visual-math benchmarks (e.g., Math-Vista and MathVision). Architecturally, we introduce three key upgrades: (i) an enhanced interleaved-MRoPE for stronger spatial-temporal modeling across images and video; (ii) DeepStack integration, which effectively leverages multi-level ViT features to tighten vision-language alignment; and (iii) text-based time alignment for video, evolving from T-RoPE to explicit textual timestamp alignment for more precise temporal grounding.

Percentages, sums and reported differences re-computed from the paper’s own numbers.
Each contradiction between two passages listed here was confirmed by an independent check.
32B Thinking MMBench-CN score is misstated
MinorThe text reports 89.5 for both MMBench scores, whereas Table 3 gives 89.4 for MMBench-CN.
“Qwen3-VL-32B-Thinking achieves the highest scores on MMBench and RealWorldQA, with 89.5/89.5 and 79.4,respectively.”
“| | MMBench-CN | 85.9 | 85.3 | 89.4 | 87.7 | 87.3 | 86.0 | 84.0 | 76.3 |”
Table 7 has an exception to the claimed improvement on every benchmark
MinorThe 30B-A3B Instruct model scores 66.1 on MultiIF, below its Qwen3-30B-A3B Instruct baseline's 70.8. That contradicts the claim that both VL models improve on all benchmarks.
“Qwen3-VL-32B and Qwen3-VL-30B-A3B show significant performance improvement compared with Qwen3-32B and Qwen3-30B-A3B on all the benchmarks.”
“Multilingualism MultiIF 72.0 70.7 66.1 70.8 67.9”
32B Thinking RealWorldQA score is misstated
MinorThe stated 79.4 is not its RealWorldQA result: Table 3 reports 78.4 for 32B Thinking and 79.0 for 32B Instruct.
“Qwen3-VL-32B-Thinking achieves the highest scores on MMBench and RealWorldQA, with 89.5/89.5 and 79.4,respectively.”
“| General VQA | RealWorldQA | 77.4 | 73.7 | 78.4 | 79.0 | 76.0 | 75.7 | 79.0 | 73.3 |”
Medium-sized models do not consistently beat the cited competitors
MinorThe stated consistent advantage over GPT-5-mini fails on MMMU: Table 3 gives GPT-5-mini high 79.0, above both medium-sized Qwen3-VL Thinking scores, 76.0 and 78.1.
“Qwen3-VL-32B demonstrates significant advantages, consistently outperforming Gemini-2.5-Flashand GPT-5-mini.”
“| | MMMU | 76.0 | 74.2 | 78.1 | 76.0 | 77.7 | 76.3 | 79.0 | 67.9 |”
Dense-model count is understated
MinorThe architecture section says there are three dense variants but lists four; the abstract also lists the same four sizes.
“Qwen3-VL is instantiated in three dense variants (Qwen3-VL-2B/4B/8B/32B) and two MoE variants”
“The model family includes both dense (2B/4B/8B/32B) and mixture-of-experts (30B-A3B/235B-A22B) variants”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Claims read by deepseek-v4.1-flash under definition version 3 (extract-v3) on 2026-10-11.
Classified by jev-1.13-20260917 (gold-guideline-v0.2) on 2026-10-11.
Cited sources are checked by gpt-6-sol.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
