A Clinically Relevant Diagnosis Code for “Malnutrition in Adults” Is Needed in ICD-11
Open accessAbstract
M alnutrition is a devastating condition with adverse outcomes in terms of complications, prognosis and quality of life ( 1 – 5 ). It is a complex condition with many aetiologies, that evolves separately or from the interaction between food deprivation and catabolic processes linked to disease-related inflammation.

A discussion has been opened with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) group at WHO in Geneva with the aim of modernizing the ICD codes for malnutrition through the use of common key variables that are shared across the leading approaches to malnutrition diagnosis.
“More recently, a discussion has been opened with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) group at WHO in Geneva with the aim of modernizing the ICD codes for malnutrition through the use of common key variables that are shared across the leading approaches to malnutrition diagnosis. 61”

The “Code for ‘Malnutrition in adults’ as an amendment for ICD-11” section says that nutrition-community representatives proposed an ICD-11 amendment to WHO in late 2020. “Diagnostic criteria currently used” says leading approaches share phenotypic and etiologic criteria. The copy does not establish that a discussion had opened with WHO’s ICD group in Geneva; it documents a proposal, not a dialogue. (LLM, conf=0.85)

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
