Abstract

Background/purpose Rosacea has been linked to inflammatory bowel disease and small bowel bacterial overgrowth. We aimed to investigate the fecal microbial profiling and the potential gene functions between rosacea and non-rosacea subjects. Methods A case-control study. Fecal microbiome and predicted genetic function inferred from high-throughput 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing were analyzed between rosacea (n = 11) and age-, gender- and body mass index-matched non-rosacea subjects (n=110). The correlation between altered microbiome as well as lifestyle and diet were also investigated. Results A significant reduction of fecal microbial richness was found in rosacea patients. A distinct fecal microbial community structure was demonstrated in rosacea patients. The discriminating enriched genera in rosacea patients included Rhabdochlamydia, CF231, Bifidobacterium, Sarcina, Ruminococcus, belonging to the phylum of Chlamydiae, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, and Lentisphaerae. The discriminating reduced abundant genera included Lactobacillus, Megasphaerae, Acidaminococcus, Hemophilus, Roseburia, Clostridium, belong to the phylum of Firmicutes; and Citrobacter, belonging to the phylum of Proteobacteria. The distinct fecal microbial composition might be related to sulfur metabolism, cobalamin, and carbohydrate transport. Conclusion An altered fecal microbial richness and composition were observed in rosacea patients. The distinct microbial composition might be related to sulfur metabolis…

  • Probiotics and prebiotics have potential immunomodulatory effects including increased immune cell activity, increased synthesis of anti-inflammatory cytokines, and strengthened immunological responses, and may aid in immune system development and decrease the likelihood of infection.

“The potential immunomodulatory effects of probiotics and prebiotics have been studied. Increased immune cell activity, increased synthesis of anti-inflammatory cytokines, and strengthened immunological responses are all possible results of their use. Therefore, they may aid in immune system development and decrease the likelihood of infection.”
  • Probiotics have potential for allergy prevention and management, especially in young children, by modulating immunological responses and fostering immune tolerance.

“There has been research on the potential of probiotics for allergy prevention and management, especially in young children. Inhibiting allergy reactions by modulating immunological responses and fostering immune tolerance may be one of their effects.”
  • Probiotics have been shown to alleviate symptoms and enhance gut health in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and infectious diarrhea by restoring the natural balance of gut bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and strengthening the gut barrier.

“Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and infectious diarrhea are all gastrointestinal conditions for which probiotics have been the subject of substantial research. They have been shown to alleviate symptoms and enhance gut health by restoring the natural balance of gut bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and strengthening the gut barrier.”
  • Probiotics and prebiotics are being studied for their potential to improve mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and stress by creating neuroactive chemicals that affect mood and emotional well-being and hence modify the gut-brain axis.

“Probiotics and prebiotics are being studied for their potential to improve mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and stress. They may create neuroactive chemicals that affect mood and emotional well-being, and hence modify the gut-brain axis.”
  • Probiotics show promise in preventing and treating vaginal infections including bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections by reestablishing the natural balance of bacteria there.

“Vaginal infections including bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections are common among women, and probiotics have shown promise in preventing and treating these conditions. Probiotics can keep your vagina healthy and cut down on the frequency of infections by reestablishing the natural balance of bacteria there.”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
