Hydrochar from Sargassum muticum : a sustainable approach for high-capacity removal of Rhodamine B dye
Open accessAbstract
An invasive macroalga biomass was valorised by hydrothermal carbonization. The resultant carbonaceous materials exhibited efficient adsorption of hazardous organic pollutants in water due to their favourable physicochemical and textural properties.

Activated hydrochars can achieve adsorption capacities of up to 714 mg/g for methylene blue.
“Furthermore, algal-based adsorbents have proven effective in mitigating dye pollution from the textile industry, with activated hydrochars achieving adsorption capacities of up to 714 mg/g for methylene blue (MB), facilitated by an optimized surface area and functional group composition [11].”

Spagnuolo et al. (2023) found that hydrochars derived from Sargassum muticum synthesized at 180-300°C for 60-300 min had macroporous structures and oxygen-containing functional groups that enhanced adsorption capabilities.
“Another study performed by Spagnuolo et al., 2023 [11], investigated hydrochars derived from Sargassum muticum, emphasizing their application in removing Rhodamine B dye from wastewater.Hydrochars were synthesized under HTC conditions ranging from 180 to 300 • C for durations of 60 to 300 min.Characterization using FTIR, XPS, and SEM-EDX revealed the presence of macroporous structures and oxygen”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
