Spin squeezing and decoherence limit in Ramsey spectroscopy

Open access

Abstract

It is known that a partially entangled state gives improved sensitivity in generalized Ramsey spectroscopy in the presence of decoherence, whereas a maximally entangled state does not. However, it has been an open question whether the known decoherence limit in the improvement is achievable. We show that every spin-squeezed state possesses pairwise entanglement, thereby improving the spectroscopic sensitivity, and that even suboptimal entanglement in its easiest implementation suffices to asymptotically reach the decoherence limit without any measurement optimization.

  • With eq. (8) and the fact that the Fisher information obeys F ≤ N^2, the limit on the speed of evolution imposes the persistence of the standard scaling Δφ ∼ 1/√N no matter how weak the dephasing rate.

“Then with eq. (8) and the fact that the Fisher information obeys F ≤ N 2 [34, 35], the limit on the speed of evolution imposes the persistence of the standard scaling D f ∼ 1 / √ N no matter how weak the dephasing rate.”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
