Mindfulness for psychosis
Open accessAbstract
Summary: Mindfulness treatments and research have burgeoned over the past decade. With psychosis, progress has been slow and likely held back by clinicians' belief that mindfulness may be harmful for this client group. There is emerging evidence that mindfulness for psychosis – when used in an adapted form – is safe and therapeutic.

Psychological therapies including cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis and third-wave therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness all have a normalizing and accepting approach to persistent psychotic experiences as a central tenet.
“Psychological therapies (including cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis and third-wave therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness) all have a normalizing and accepting approach to PEs as a central tenet 76,77”
From Clinical, socio‐demographic and psychological characteristics in individuals with persistent psychotic experiences with and without a “need for care” (2016) · cites this paper as [77]
The Background and rationale and Adapting mindfulness for psychosis sections (pages unavailable) describe acceptance and normalising guidance as central to mindfulness for psychosis. The paper also says that responding differently to persistent symptoms has been argued for CBT for psychosis, but it does not establish a normalising and accepting approach as a central tenet of CBT or address acceptance and commitment therapy. Thus it does not support the claim about all three therapies. (LLM, conf=0.86)

The delay in developing mindfulness-based interventions for psychosis originated partly in concerns from uncontrolled studies reporting an association between onset of psychosis or deterioration of mental health and meditation practice.
“This delay originated partly in concerns arising from uncontrolled studies reporting an association between the onset of psychosis, or deterioration of the mental health of those with psychosis, and meditation practice (Chadwick, 2014).”

About these checks
Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.
Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.
Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
