Abstract

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are secretory proteins belonging to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily. These proteins play important roles in embryogenesis, bone morphogenesis, blood vessel remodeling and the development of various organs. In recent years, as research has progressed, BMPs have been found to be closely related to cardiovascular diseases, especially atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, cardiac remodeling, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). In this review, we summarized the potential roles and related mechanisms of the BMP family in the cardiovascular system and focused on atherosclerosis and PAH.

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • BMP-2 has known roles in development, tumorigenesis, and various body tissues.

“BMP-2 has known roles in development [36], on tumorigenesis, [37] and in various body tissues [38–40].”

From Keratin Scaffold Formulation Impacts rhBMP-2 Biodistribution and Bone Regeneration in a Rat Femur Defect Model (2025) · cites this paper as [40]

Section 4.1 describes BMP-2’s role in cardiac development, and Section 2 places BMP-2 among BMPs found in cardiac tissue; the Introduction also describes BMP roles across several organs. The paper does not address BMP-2’s role in tumorigenesis, so it supports only part of the attributed claim. The available passages have no page numbers. (LLM, conf=0.85)

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
