Local and Systemic Peptide Therapies for Soft Tissue Regeneration: A Narrative Review

Open access

Abstract

: The review identified various peptides demonstrating efficacy in soft tissue repair. Oral and intra-articular peptides showed distinct advantages in soft tissue regeneration, with intra-articular routes providing localized effects and oral routes offering systemic benefits. However, both routes have limitations in bioavailability and absorption. Still in their infancy, further inquiries/research into the properties and efficacy of emerging peptides will be necessary before widespread use. As a viable alternative prior to surgical intervention, peptide treatments present as promising candidates for positive outcomes in soft tissue regeneration.

  • Optimal dosage and delivery methods for peptides remain under-researched.

“However, optimal dosage and delivery methods for peptides remain under-researched, indicating the need for further study to fully determine their role in orthopedic interventions [27].”

From Advancements in Regenerative Therapies for Orthopedics: A Comprehensive Review of Platelet-Rich Plasma, Mesenchymal Stem Cells, Peptide Therapies, and Biomimetic Applications (2025) · cites this paper as [27]

The Introduction says oral and intra-articular delivery each have trade-offs and that a direct comparison for peptide joint treatment has yet to be made, supporting the delivery-method research gap. It says bioavailability matters when determining dosing regimens, but does not say optimal peptide dosages are under-researched. (LLM, conf=0.84)

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
