Redox Switchable Copolymerization of Cyclic Esters and Epoxides by a Zirconium Complex

Quan, Stephanie M., Wang, Xinke, Zhang, Rongjia, Diaconescu, Paula L.·2016·Macromolecules

Abstract

A zirconium precatalyst, (salfan)Zr(O t Bu) 2 (salfan = 1,1′-di(2- tert -butyl-6- N -methylmethylenephenoxy)ferrocene), shows activity for the redox-controlled block copolymerization of l -lactide and cyclohexene oxide. The role of the oxidant is examined, and several diblock (AB and BA) and triblock copolymers (ABA and BAB) were synthesized and characterized.

  • DFT calculations suggested a bifunctional mechanism analogous to that of TBD, where the (thio)imidiates behave as a proton shuttle to pick up the proton from the initiator/chain end, to stabilize the tetrahedral intermediate via double H-bonds, and to deliver the proton back to the chain end after ring-opening.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
