Abstract

Cyber-therapies, being psychological interventions by means of the Internet, are transforming into a complement for and an alternative to traditional attention, and are beginning to show effectiveness. Unfortunately there are few publications on the subject in the Spanish language. Thus this review proposes arguments justifying the use of cyber-therapies, and defines some terms needed to understand them. Subsequently we point out their advantages and disadvantages; the issues to be considered for their implementation, as well as the areas where they have been used. Along these lines, this review provides an ample, updated and introductory overview of the subject of e-therapy associated with clinical psychology.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • The effectiveness of online therapy is currently very well established.

“In addition, the effectiveness of online therapy is currently very well established [37,45,46].”

From What format of treatment do patients with emotional disorders prefer and why? Implications for public mental health settings and policies (2019) · cites this paper as [37]

The Conclusions say cybertherapies are demonstrating effectiveness, which supports the claim's basic point. But they also call for continued evaluation; they do not describe effectiveness as already very well established. The indexed Conclusions passage has no page number. (LLM, conf=0.88)

  • The counterarguments against online therapy have not obtained empirical support.

“These counterarguments have not obtained empirical support; in fact, the article of Soto-Pérez et al. [37] contains various studies that show the satisfaction of patients treated online and the non-existence of differences in the therapeutic alliance among those treated online and those treated face-to-face.”

From What format of treatment do patients with emotional disorders prefer and why? Implications for public mental health settings and policies (2019) · cites this paper as [37]

The paper’s Abstract says that two principal objections to online therapy—concerns about computer literacy and therapeutic alliance—lack empirical support, and reports no significant difference in alliance between online and traditional settings. Its discussion also reports favorable patient satisfaction. The claim is broader and more definite than the paper’s qualified conclusion about those two objections; the paper does not dismiss every counterargument. (LLM, conf=0.85)

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
