Endothelial Function: Cardiac Events

Lerman, Amir, Zeiher, Andreas M.·2005·Circulation

Abstract

A growing body of evidence suggests that endothelial dysfunction is associated with cardiovascular events.Endothelial dysfunction can be regarded as a syndrome that exhibits systemic manifestations associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The concept of endothelial dysfunction should be extended beyond the conduit vessels into the vascular wall and even to the bone marrow and the progenitor endothelial cells. The present review is focused on the potential underlying mechanism by which endothelial dysfunction may contribute to cardiovascular events. The assessment of endothelial function may emerge as an integral adjuvant test for evaluation of the vulnerable patients at risk for future cardiovascular events.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Impaired coronary endothelial function and impaired myocardial blood flow response assessed by PET are independent predictors of unfavorable cardiovascular outcome.

“Nevertheless, because impairment of coronary endothelial function (32) and specifically impaired MBF response as assessed by PET (33) have been shown to be independent predictors of unfavorable cardiovascular outcome, our results may at least raise questions about safety in patients with impaired MFR, such as CAD patients.”

  • Endothelial dysfunction, defined as a reduced vasodilator response to acetylcholine, is an early prognostic indicator for the onset of cardiovascular disease.

“endothelial dysfunction, which can be defined as a reduced vasodilator response to acetylcholine, is an early prognostic indicator for the onset of cardiovascular disease (168–171).”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
