Hypothalamic regulation of regionally distinct adult neural stem cells and neurogenesis

Paul, Alex, Chaker, Zayna, Doetsch, Fiona·2017·Science

Abstract

Specialization in brain neurogenic niche The adult mammalian brain generates neurons from the subventricular zone (SVZ). In mice, Paul et al. were able to link environmental signals with the type of neurons that are generated and showed that anatomical subspecialization occurrs in the SVZ. Neural circuits that respond to hunger or satiety enervate a subregion of the SVZ and retune the production of new olfactory neurons just from that portion of the subventricular niche. Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Spatially distinct pools of adult V-SVZ NSCs can be regulated by physiological states and distant neural circuits.

“Moreover, spatially distinct pools of adult V-SVZ NSCs can be regulated by physiological states and distant neural circuits (Paul et al., 2017), highlighting the importance of regional differences between the lateral and septal walls regarding intrinsic NSC identity, as well as for niche signals in regulating stem cell behavior.”
  • Spatially distinct pools of NSCs can sense and respond to different local and long-range physiological signals to generate different types of OB interneurons.

“Indeed, spatially distinct pools of NSCs can sense and respond to different local and long-range physiological signals to generate different types of OB interneurons (Paul et al., 2017), and V-SVZ NSCs are promptly recruited upon injury or under pathological conditions (Chaker et al., 2016).”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
