Abstract

A beneficial cocktail: Since the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, considerable effort has gone into generating and characterizing neutralizing antibodies that could be used as therapeutics. Studies in humanized mice and convalescent humans led to the development of a cocktail of two potent antibodies that simultaneously bind to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike protein and prevent the virus from entering host cells. Baum et al. evaluated the efficacy of this cocktail, REGN-COV2, in rhesus macaques, which may model mild disease, and in golden hamsters, which present more severe symptoms. The antibody cocktail provided benefits in both models when administered either prophylactically or therapeutically and is currently in clinical trials. Science , this issue p. 1110

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • The frequency distributions of human IGVK and IgVL genes differed significantly between vaccinees and the Sequence Read Archive dataset SRP010970.

    “Two-sided binomial tests with unequal variance were used to compare the frequency distributions., significant differences are denoted with stars (* p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01, *** p < 0.001, **** = p < 0.0001).”
  • Passive transfer of nAbs limits respiratory tract infection and protects against infection in animal models.

“passive transfer of nAbs limits respiratory tract infection and protects against infection in animal models (16–20)”
  • Passive transfer of neutralizing antibodies before SARS-CoV-2 exposure can prevent or limit upper respiratory tract infection, lung infection, and symptomatic disease in animal models.

“passive transfer of neutralizing antibodies in advance of SARS-CoV-2 infection (mimicking the conditions of 2° infection) can effectively prevent or limit URT infection, lung infection, and symptomatic disease in animal models”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
