The Saccharomyces cerevisiae CCH1 gene is involved in calcium influx and mating

Fischer, Marc, Schnell, Norbert, Chattaway, Jayne, Davies, Paul, Dixon, Graham, Sanders, Dale·1997·FEBS Letters

Abstract

The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene CCH1 (ORF YGR217w) shows high homology with animal calcium channel α1‐subunit genes. Knock‐out mutants were constructed of Cch1 and of Mid1 which is known to mediate Ca 2+ influx in response to the α‐mating pheromone. Cch1 is involved in calcium influx and the late stage of the mating process. The cch1 mutant sensitivity against the α‐mating pheromone can be reduced by the addition of extra calcium. The product of this gene is likely to interact with the MID1 gene product in Ca influx or its control.

Claims the paper makes

This paper’s full text isn’t openly available, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • Previous genetic data demonstrated identical phenotypic defects of strains lacking either Mid1 or Cch1, including nonviability in low [Ca2+] medium.

“This is consistent with previous genetic data that demonstrated identical phenotypic defects of strains lacking either Mid1 or Cch1 including nonviability in low [Ca 2ϩ ] medium (7,11,15,20).”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
