Self-healable graphene polymer composites

Xiao, Xingcheng, Xie, Tao, Cheng, Yang-Tse·2010·Journal of Materials Chemistry

Abstract

We report here a simple and scalable process to fabricate graphene shape memory polymer composites. The graphene material was nanolayered graphene synthesized by a microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition method. The free standing nanolayered graphene, in its pristine state, was used as a filler to fabricate epoxy based shape memory polymer composites by (1) direct dispersion in the diamine curing agent; (2) thermal curing with diepoxides. The shape memory properties of the polymer matrix impart a thermal healing capability into the composites, which was greatly enhanced at ultra-low filler contents of 0.0025 and 0.0125 vol%.

This paper’s full text isn’t openly available, so its claims and self-check weren’t run. The registry and citation checks still apply.

Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • A shape memory epoxy subjected to microscopic damages was healed completely or mostly upon heating above its glass transition temperature.

“Upon heating to a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the shape memory epoxy, the scratch in microscale on the sample was healed completely or mostly.”
  • Graphene can be incorporated into SMCs by preparation of polymer blends with embedded functionalized graphene.

“by its preparation of polymer blends with embedded functionalized graphene (improved interfacial bonding and self-healing materials) [135]”

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
