Abstract

All forms of life share the ability to sense envi-ronmental change and respond in real time byengaging adaptive homeostatic programs. Inhigher organisms, the composition of consumed meals presents a complex, constantly changing nutritional environment, and we are only beginning to understand the sensing and signaling systems that detect and coordinate the transcriptional, physiological, and behavioral respon-ses to meal components. Although it has long been axi-omatic that dietary composition plays a deterministic role in overall health, the growing prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome has prompted a refocus of attention on the significance of dietary macronutrients to health outcomes. Findings from earlier investigations of potential roles for dietary carbohydrates and fat in disease pro-gression or remediation (1–4) are now being reframed by experimental evidence linking dilution of dietary protein to compensatory increases in ingestive behavior (5,6). Claims other papers make about this one

Each is checked against this paper’s own text: does it say what the citing paper says it does?

  • A large and growing literature clearly demonstrates that animals selectively detect and adaptively respond to the restriction of dietary protein.

“there is a large and growing literature that rather clearly demonstrates that animals selectively detect and adaptively respond to the restriction of dietary protein”

Self-check

Percentages, sums and reported differences re-computed from the paper’s own numbers.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
