Abstract

Methods and proceduresSystematic search. We conducted a comprehensive literature search of the PubMed database using related MeSH keywords for papers published between January 1980 and May 2007.We first conducted the search using "sleep AND obesity AND child." The resulting number was 51, 10 of which were included in the systematic review.Further search with MeSH keywords: "sleep AND overweight AND child" yielded 42 papers from which few additional studies were selected. We also searched with "sleep AND obesity" and found 54 references, and found 46 references using "sleep AND overweight." Furthermore, we tried searching " paediatric" or "pediatric" as an MeSH keyword, but no matching references were found. Then, we checked articles using the "related article" option of PubMed.In addition, studies identified in the course of reading

  • The same meta-analysis reported an odds ratio of 1.92 in children with the shortest sleep duration, suggesting a dose-response relationship between sleep duration and increased risk of obesity.

“and an OR of 1.92 (95% CI, 1.15–3.2) in children with the shortest sleep duration, suggesting a dose–response relationship between sleep duration increased risk of obesity [23].”

  • A second meta-analysis reported an odds ratio of 1.58 in children with short sleep duration.

“The second study reported an OR of 1.58 (95% CI, 1.26–1.98) in children with short sleep duration”

From Sleep and metabolic function (2012) · cites this paper as [23]

  • A meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies reported a trend for a dose-response relationship between reduced sleep duration and increased obesity risk.

“These results are in accordance with a meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies that reported a trend for a dose–response relationship between reduced sleep duration and increased risk of obesity [23].”

From Sleep and metabolic function (2012) · cites this paper as [23]

  • A similar OR of 1.58 for obesity was found in children in another meta-analysis.

About these checks

Registry, retraction, Cites and statistics results are computed, not judged, with one exception: a printed reference that no index lists is read once by a model before it counts as a citation error. Claims are extracted by a model and kept only when their quote appears verbatim in the text; each cited source is then checked, with a model’s help, for whether it says what the claim relies on. Those verdicts can be wrong — read the claim’s quote and the cited source before relying on one.

Statistics and arithmetic are recomputed, not judged.

Confidence bands are shown only for fields calibrated on our annotated test set. None is calibrated yet, so no band is shown.
